Then of course came the ‘Like’ button, where people could show their appreciation for an attractive picture in the the hopes of starting off a conversation. Then there is the various flirt style apps that allow people to get flirty with other users. But what if the person you are crushing on doesn’t use such apps and you don’t even know their relationship status as they haven’t included it in their profile info.
Well Facebook has come up with a way users can find out if the object of their affection is single – it has rolled a new ‘Ask’ feature for profile pages that don’t list their relationship status. The owner of the page does not see the button, it is only visible to the person that is checking out the profile.
By clicking on the ‘Ask’ button you will be require to send the user a message related to the status, like asking them to join you for coffee, as well as a request to list their relationship status as engaged, married, single or in a civil union. Take note, you cant just go trawling through Facebook, looking for people that you find attractive and then ask them about their relationship status. You have to be a friend with someone in order to use the ‘Ask’ button.
Once the request has been sent the owner of the profile will receive a request to select a relationship status that only the sender can see – so your relationship status will only be visible to those that ask for it.
So there you have it, Facebook is now helping you to find dates, and with the huge user base, I don’t know why they didn’t do it sooner!
