Be Aware Of Different Cultures When Flirting Around The World
Perhaps you are soon to be heading off to a far flung destination on a vacation and whilst you’re away, you wouldn’t be adverse to a little holiday romance. But, your particular flirting style may not be all that successful in other cultures, in fact it could get you in some trouble that goes beyond a whack to the groin or a drink in the face.
If you are intending to go flirting around the world, do the responsible thing and learn a little about the seduction techniques that are considered appropriate in your chosen destination. It is sure to serve you well and get a few more numbers that the person that goes in blind, hoping their mixture of desperation and ignorance will hit the mark (NOTE: It almost never does). Check out these cultural differences in flirting techniques…
- Eye Content – In Western cultures, eye contact is an important part of any flirtation. However, in countries in the Far East, eye contact has a rather different meaning – Chinese and Japanese women are not expected to initiate eye contact, as it is considered somewhat rude and disrespectful…as ridiculous and archaic as that is.
- Personal Space – Different cultures have different ideas on what constitutes an invasion of personal space. Those from, what are known as ‘Contact Cultures’, like the Mediterranean and Latin America, are a lot more comfortable with closeness compared to those of Northern Europe, UK and North America.
- Temperature – Should you play it cool, or should you go in for the kill? If your in France definitely go in for the kill, it is perfectly acceptable over there to approach a stranger in the street and ask for a number or a date, rejection just rolls off the back. Booze if often the driving force behind flirtation for those in the UK and cheeky banter usually includes sarcasm and insults. It may seem a little frosty in the Netherlands as touching strangers is usually a no go area, as is approaching a total stranger, so err on the side of caution. The temperature is high in Italy, with physical contact encouraged and compliments flying thick and fast.
Hopefully this will help you with your flirting around the world, or at least help you stay out of trouble.
