Be A Better Flirt, Just In Time For Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and if you don’t want to spend it alone with a microwave meal and nothing but your own tears for company, you need to get out there and get flirting. But, if you want to bag that Valentine’s Day date you are going to have to rely on something other than cheesy chat-up lines, as it has recently been established that they vary rarely work.
So if chat-up lines wont work, what will work? What will get you closer to that special person as opposed to closer to a restraining order?
- Don’t Over Think It – Couples were getting it together many thousands of years before chat-up lines, sexting and Facebook. They did so by using their innate ability to recognise the signs of physical attraction, without resorting to cheesy pick-up lines that turn the stomach. Be relaxed and keep an eye out for the signs that the object of your desire is interested, such as gently touching their face, finding excuses to touch you, leaning in closer and prolonging eye contact.
- Make An Effort – A study by the UK Social Issues Research Centre found that flirting success is much more dependent on non-verbal communication. Their research suggested that first impressions are 55% based on body language an appearance, 38% on style of speaking and tone of voice and only a tiny 7% on the words being said. So make sure you are showered and dressed to impress and try to refrain from sarcasm, at least for five minutes anyway.
- Be A Mimic – We have all heard the expression that ‘imitation is the sincerest/greatest form of flattery’ and it couldn’t be more true when it comes to flirting. A sure sign of interest and a way to build intimacy s to mimic their body language – without being too obvious of course. Mimicry of their body language creates the feeling that you are perfectly in sync and will greatly boost your chances of getting beyond the flirtation.
So there is nothing left to do now, but to go and get flirting.
