Facebook relationship boasters are the ones who are the most insecure
How annoying are those people that are always banging on about their perfect relationship on Facebook, or some other social media platform? Every day there is new status update about how great their partner is, accompanied by a picture of the hapy couple kissing – please pass the sick bucket. Who really believes that he buys her flowers everyday, or that she stocks the fridge with beer and buys him his favourite computer game?
It all seems rather desperate, such a need for people to see how ‘amazing’ their relationship is. If your relationship was so good, wouldn’t you be spending your time enjoying it, instead of spending hour after hour talking about it on Facebook? Well a new study has found that those who make the biggest, braggiest deal about their relationship on the internet are the ones that feel the most insecure with their partner.
The study, which was published in the ‘Journal od Social Psycholoy Bulletin’ examines the psychology behind “relationship visibility” and how this is shown on Facebook. The research found that those who were more anxious were way more likely to try an remind others that they were in a relationship. Those who feel insecure about their partners feelings will deliberately try to make their relationship visible.
So when that one annyoying friend of those, starts gushing about their partner in that dreadful way of theirs, don’t reach for the ‘unfriend’ button, maybe hit the message button and see if they are okay. Then if they continue to brag about their relationship, you can block them, after all you did try to reach out…what more do they want?
