Relationships in Australia – Are men in Australia under pressure to perform in the bedroom?
All you Australians out there may be aware of the ‘Stronger Relationships Program’, which was recently introduced by Minister for Families, Kevin Andrews. The program gives couples $200 to build their relationship with the help of guidance counsellors.
Just a month into the initiative the pilot scheme seems to be very popular. Women are attending the course en masse and telling their guidance counsellors that they aren’t getting enough sex from their partners and that they are tired of waiting for it.
Sex and Desire workshops have been running in South Australia as part of Stronger Relationships and the organisation’s Grant Pearson says that it’s apparrent men are “under pressure” to perform. Mr Pearson says: “We are finding a lot more women demanding sex and men being put under pressure…we’ve not got women coming in saying: ‘He isn’t giving me enough sex’. That’s standing out to us.”
The Sex and Desire workshops don’t officially start until next month, but according to Sexual Health Counsellor Chris Fox, his similar classes are always full. “We look at communication, we look at conflict resolution, intimate touch as opposed to sexual touch,” Mr Fox says.
Hopefully, the ol,ounselling and courses paid for by the Stronger Relationships Program, will help couples get on the same page when it comes to sex. Maybe help men feel less pressure to perform in the bedroon – sometimes a cuddle can be nice enough…
