Interesting News in the Science of Dating – Playing Hard to Get Only Works for Men
Every week there is another study emerging that discovers everything we thought we knew about dating was wrong. According, to recent studies, it is the men who should play hard to get if they want to attract the opposite sex. This is so they don’t appear to be manipulative or unmanly to women – women are suspicious of men who are too attentive and may even see him as ‘vulnerable and less dominant’. And guys, women do not want to mate with the vulnerable males, that’s just nature, look at elephant seals.
Women on the other hand should be generally ‘nice’ as to appear as feminine as possible to the opposite sex. So girls, it’s time to stop appearing all aloof and uninterested, because it isn’t going to o you any favours.
The first study was carried out with 112 undergraduates with an age range of 20-33 yers old. They wre paired with a member of the opposite sex for a 30 minute ‘date’. The women that were more friendly and ‘nice’ were judged to be more sexually attractive. Alternatively, if men were too keen they were judged to be looking for a quick fling and is therefore, not to be trusted.
The US University of Rochester confirmed these findings in a study which involved participants receiving a picture of their ‘date’ before an online chat discussing a problem in their life. Some participants were sympathetic and others were unsympathetic.
The men who talked with an attentive and caring lady, judged her to be more feminine and attractive than the women who acted aloof. However, women were a lot more cautious feeling uncomfortable with a new male aquaintance who want to be close.
